    Depart from your home city on a life changing journey to Southern India!

    Please ensure when booking flights that you arrive no later than the evening of Day 2 as listed on the itinerary.

    Day 2CochinNamaste: Arrival In India
    Welcome to India! Please ensure your flights are booked to arrive on day two of the journey. You are met by your Learning Journeys Tour Manager. Depart for your hotel where you will check in and relax from your flight. Cochin (Kochi) is spread across islands and promontories in a stunning location between the Arabian Sea and the Backwaters. The city was founded in 1341 when a flood created a natural safe port which became the principal harbour for Malabar coast's spice trade. Cochin was on the main trade route between Europe and China. The rulers invited people of various religions to settle here, attracting the Jews and the Christians who built places of worship and their own communities.
    Day 3CochinHindu Temple, City Tour, Community Service
    Start your day with an optional Yoga Session.

    After breakfast, proceed for visit to Jansewa Sishusadan - a place established to rescue children suffering on streets and to take actions to hand them over to Child Protection / Welfare Centers. Also, the organisation works to rescue women and children who are subjected to harassment at the hands of those who lead wayward lives enslaved to liquor and drugs and to take actions to bring such victims to the mainstream of life. Lunch at local restaurant or hotel Return to city and do the sightseeing of ancient harbor town of Kochi. Sites include St. Francis' Church with the grave of Vasco Da Gama; enjoy murals and antiques at the Dutch Palace (close on Friday), Jew Town, the Jewish Synagogue, spice market & Chinese fishing nets.

    In the evening visit a Hindu Temple. ( B, L, D)

    Day 4ThekkedyCochin to Thekkedy
    Yoga Session in the morning. Drive to Thekkedy ( approx 5 hours), a green corridor which is known for spice plantation, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and elephants. Upon arrival check-in at hotel. Lunch at hotel In the afternoon visit a school nearby the hotel - this is the chance to meet young and aspiring future of humanity from this part of the globe. After spending some time at school proceed for visit to Spice Plantation area where you will see the plants of world famous spices like black pepper, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Walk through the village lanes while learning about the life here. A tuk-tuk will be waiting for you to drop you back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Thekkedy ( B, L, D)
    Day 5ThekkedyCardamom Experience-Periyar Wildlife Reserve-Cooking Demonstration
    Yoga Session in the morning.

    After breakfast, visit to the Cardamom Grading Unit and meet the local ladies working there. This is going to be a unique experience as the ladies, in 21st century, are still working in a very traditional way without using the machines. After this interactive session with these smiling ladies, ride on the jeep and drive to the hill top of this area and soak into the nature's unparallel beauty.

    Evening is the time for visit to Periyar Wildlife Reserve. Periyar is South India's most popular wildlife sanctuary, encompassing an area of 777 Sq. Kms. Set on the attractive man-made Periyar Lake, it attracts many visitors every year. Tough the sanctuary was made a part of Project Tiger in 1973, it is better known for its Elephants. Take a boat ride on Lake Periyar and see the wildlife around the lake as you cruise along its banks. Apart from elephants, bison, sambar, wild boar and langurs are common. This boat ride will be on a seat share basis. In order to maximise the available resources, the Government does not allow any exclusive boating here.

    Meet the Chef who will take you on a culinary journey through South India's delicious traditional food. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Thekkedy ( B, L, D)

    Day 6Overnight On A HouseboatTea Session- Plant A Tree-Overnight On A Houseboat
    Before leaving the hotel, plant a tree in the area which will be the true contribution to this green corridor and respect to the Mother Nature. Drive to the boat jetty to board on houseboat. En-route stop at a Tea Processing Unit where you will learn about the various tea types and have a tea session.

    Upon arrival at jetty board on a Houseboat (also known as Kettuvalloms) which is the most predominant way to experience the Kerala backwaters. This is a unique opportunity to experience breathtakingly beautiful backwaters which consist of a complex network of brackish lagoons, lovely lakes and canals. Enjoy lunch on board and relax on deck while sailing in backwaters. Join the crew members in preparation for your dinner. Dinner and overnight on houseboat (Houseboat will be anchored in the evening) ( B, L, D)

    Day 7KollamKollam -Amma's Ashram -Ayuveda Treatment Options
    Say good bye to your crew at houseboat and drive to Kollam for a divine experience! The small town of Kollam has now famous on the globe as the source of "Insight & Inspiration". Amma - the mother of all, has established a centre of Spirituality, inspiration and love for humanity here.

    Upon arrival check-in at a hotel. After lunch, visit Amma's Ashram and participate in prayers/activities per Ashram's Schedule.

    Day 8KollamAyuveda Treatment Options- Amma's Ashram
    Start your day with a Yoga Session at hotel. AM opportuinites for Ayuvedic treatments ( optional-not included.). Visit Amma's Ashram and participate in prayers/activities per Ashram's Schedule.

    Return to hotel for lunch or have it local restaurant in town. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Kollam ( B, L, D)

    Day 9CochinThe Art of Kolam -Kathkali Dance Show
    Start your day with a Yoga Session at hotel. Check-out from hotel and drive back to Cochin.

    After lunch, visit the house of a Brahmin lady to learn the art of Kolam. Kolams, geometrical patterns & designs, are a symbol of auspiciousness. It is Hindu belief that that Kolam at the entrance to a home, invites Goddess Lakshmi into the household, and drives away the evil spirits. Traditionally, the women use rice powder to make Kolams. The reason for using rice flour is that we are providing food for the ants & other small insects.

    In the evening, visit local theatre to witness Kathkali Dance Show. The word Kathakali literally means "Story-Play". It is known for its large, elaborate makeup and costumes. The themes of the Kathakali are religious in nature. Kathakali is usually performed only by men. Female characters are portrayed by men dressed in women's costume. However, in recent years, women have started to become Kathakali dancers. Farewell dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at hotel in Cochin ( B, L, D)
