Rajasthan: A Journey to Pushkar 2018

Located in Rajasthan, India, Pushkar is a vibrant metropolis. Pushkar is one of the oldest towns in India. For most part of the year, the town is a haven for pilgrims from across the country, seeking a dip in the holy lake. As the year ends, however, one sees the other face of Pushkar - vibrant, colourful, noisy and buzzing with activity. This is when the town plays host to the annual Pushkar Fair, also known as the Pushkar Cattle Fair which attracts visitors in their thousands.

You will get a chance to get a unique immersion into this vibrant land, and visit the rustic fair, along with many opportunities to meet and interact with the locals! In addition, you will take a traditional cooking class in a local's home where you can learn to make naan and other local favorites! A very exciting way to travel around India is by the well known Cycle Rickshaw and Tuk-Tuk, which will give you a unique look into these cities! More specifically to Rajasthan, you will also get the chance to ride a Camel and Elephant, explore glorious Indian History, Palaces and Forts, contribute your time to the project which is dedicated to saving female children, and of course shopping!

    Day 2DelhiTHU: Arrive Delhi
    Welcome to India's capital city! Contemporary Delhi is a bustling metropolis, which successfully combines the ancient with the modern. Amidst the fast spiraling skyscrapers the remnants of a bygone time in the form of its many monuments stand as silent. Perhaps there is no other capital city in the world so steeped in history and legend as the Indian capital Delhi.

    Day 3DelhiFRI: In Delhi
    Your first introduction to India will be with Old Delhi, a cultural melting pot of contemporary and old world! In the morning, proceed for a combined tour of Old and New Delhi.You will be visiting Old Delhi narrow lane market (with some ride on cycle rickshaw), Raj Ghat - the cremation site of Father of the Nation Mr. Gandhi and a Sikh temple - The shrine is the scene of constant devotional music, whose ethereal tones are relayed throughout the entire complex.

    After the tour, you will have lunch at local Restaurant, then proceed to visit famous Qutab Minar (UNESCO monument) and photo stops at beautiful Governments buildings (like - India Gate, President House and Parliament House) which are representing British Era in India. Also visit Akshardham Temple (Monday closed) - a beautiful Hindu temple.

    Day 4JaipurSAT: Drive Delhi / Jaipur
    In the morning, check-out from hotel and drive for Jaipur - the Pink City of India!

    Jaipur (the City of Victory), was founded in 1727. It is the only city in the world symbolizing the nine divisions of the Universe through nine rectangular sectors sub-dividing it. The city was painted pink in 1853 in honour of the visit by Prince Albert. Except for the busy traffic of bicycles, cars and buses, little seems to have changed.

    Upon arrival to Jaipur you will check-in at your hotel and proceed to have lunch at hotel.

    Later, visit some famous tourist sites of city like: Hawa Mahal : A façade with 953 windows and a perfect photo stop! City Palace : Maharaja's palace covering one seventh area of the city, and Janter-Manter : An astronomical Observatory.

    After, you will proceed for a local restaurant and learn the art of "Naan" making and dinner at local restaurant.

    Day 5JaipurSUN: In Jaipur
    After early morning breakfast, take an excursion to magnificent fort on hill top. The fort is called Amber Fort which is 11 kms away from main Jaipur city. Ride an elephant to ascent the fort.

    Lunch at restaurant/hotel. Later, you will walk through colorful buzzing local markets. Visit some shops as Jaipur is the paradise of shoppers where you can also get Heena tattoo on palms. In the evening visit a local temple and attend a prayer ceremony there.

    Day 6PushkarMON: Drive Jaipur / Pushkar
    After breakfast, you will drive to Pushkar - the Holy Lake city!

    Later in the afternoon, proceed for a visit to the Fair Ground. The Pushkar Fair is a melting pot of Rajasthani culture, replete with folk dance and music, snake charmers and magicians, camel races. The desert landscape miraculously transforms into a pretty carnival picture during the five day festival. Thousands of camels and cattle are traded during the fair. Ride on a camel a take a round of Fair Ground.

    Return to hotel. Dinner at hotel.

    Day 7PushkarTUE: In Pushkar

    Visit the fairground again. Here, lots of activities will be happening every day like - Horse dance, Camel dance, Camel decoration competition, Cultural dance show and lot. Keep your camera battery charged! Back to hotel for lunch

    In the afternoon, it's time to see the sacred side of Pushkar town and witness the rituals happening there. Visit the famous Brahma Temple - devoted to Lord Brahma and Pushkar Lake. Here you will see thousands of people gathering and doing rituals around the lake and ancient temple.

    Return to hotel. Dinner at hotel

    Day 8JodhpurWED: Drive Pushkar / Jodhpur
    After breakfast, drive to Jodhpur - the Blue City of India!

    In the afternoon, ride on a tuk-tuk and proceed for a tour to local spice market and vegetable market around city's famous Clock Tower.

    Visit the home of your host to learn some Indian cuisines and dinner.

    Note: During this dinner, ladies can dress like Indian ladies while wearing Saari, Bindi and matching bangles. We can arrange it at supplement cost and the same is given in cost proposal.

    Day 9JodhpurTHU: In Jodhpur
    Morning is the time to witness the glorious history of this beautiful town. Visit the city's land mark Mehrangarh Fort. This fort is located atop a humungous rock and has seven gates that are strategically located in order to make the fort impregnable to enemy attacks. The fort is very well preserved and is one of the 'must-see' places in India. Also visit the cremation site of Royal Family.

    Later, take a walking tour to the Old Blue City. The labyrinths of alleyways in the old city are unique to the place and overwhelm a visitor with its bazaars that vend handicrafts, textiles, and other pieces of art. The old city is surrounded by a six mile long wall that has eight entrances and is a good place to wander around and take in the essence of the culture and architecture of this place.

    Day 10UdaipurFRI: Drive Jodhpur / Udaipur
    This morning, you will embark on a drive to Udaipur - Venice of the East!

    Udaipur is a beautiful city regarded as one of the most romantic in India. Presenting an enchanting image of marble palaces, placid lakes, attractive gardens and green hills, it has been called "the Venice of the East". It was founded in 1568 as a traditionally planned, fortified city full of palaces, temples and havelis. The city also became a center for the performing arts, painting and crafts.

    In the evening, take a boat ride in Lake Pichola - Fringed with hills, palaces, ghats, and temples and offers spectacular views of the city.

    Day 11UdaipurSAT: In Udaipur
    After breakfast, it is time to explore the city! Sites you will be visiting are: City Palace : The largest palace complex in India, a blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture and Jagdish Temple : 17th century old temple having local importance.

    In the afternoon, we are going to Mahesh Ashram which is doing beautiful work the society. The Ashram is saving and taking care of abandoned female children. Abandoning the female child is a social evil, which still exists, in some of the parts of India. We will meet the staff and children here to witness and participate in their notable efforts.

    In the evening, visit Bagore Ki Haveli - the 17th century old historic mansion has its own rich cultural legacy. Witness the musical concert combining 07 traditional Rajasthani folk dances.

    This morening after breakfast at the hotel, your morning remains at leisure.
